Whats your CD/DVD player?
I'm going to put up a poll too.
I use a Plextor 716 SA (sata version, used to have an IDE but it crapped out on me some years ago). Apparently Plextors were the thing to have for ripping for many years but now they have rebadged other makes like Pioneer & Samsung, although there's still supposed to be a few decent models. Too bad - granted they were expensive but when I was doing research in 2005 to build my first pc I read such good things I knew I had to have one. Its going to be a sad day when it quits working on me, I should scour ebay and pick up a couple before they all but dissapear.
So whats your brand of choice and how does it do?

I've Only Ever Purchased One Drive and the Only Reason I Got It Was to Play Blu-Ray and HD DVDs...
and As It Happens It Was a LG "HL DT STBD RE GGW-H 20 L"
As for Ripping with It Does a Good Job, but I Do Find It Can Take an Hour Extra to Finish Ripping Compared to All My Other Drives.

Re: Whats your CD/DVD player?
Old Plextors are the best.
I use an old SCSI PLEXTOR CD-ROM PX-40TS. It's a CD-rom drive, not even a burner It's old as hell (late 90ies) and beats the crap out of any other drive I've ever used for ripping. It's fast and accurate, solid build and it will outlive any PCs I'll ever have I'm sure. I ripped a lot of CDs with it and it still works like it was it's first day. There are some slightly younger CD-R IDE models that work even faster but I don't know which (they are around 100 euros used I think). You can find them on ebay or some specialised store.
That's the one I'm using the most:

Otherwise I also have an LG DVD-Burner which works fine, but slowly. I also used a few drives on various laptops. One was a philips, the other one a TSST corp. They did the job well, slowly also and gave me worries about the laptop exploding (pretty heavy work for a laptop drive to rip a CD in secure mode with EAC).
I usually find that older CR-ROM drives, IDE or SCSI rip cds better, and faster. You can find good old TEAC drives for instance, for pennies, and they will rip very well and quite quickly.
I would also like to buy one or two more plex drives at some point, from the older models. Good to have for ripping. A shame that the new ones are, well, basically repackaged other brands' crap compared to what Plextor was manufacturing before.
