woohoo...finally picked up a job!
Well, winter is over & done with for the most part here in Canucklestan although tonight the weather is going to get the shits and we're expecting 2 CM of snow and winds up to 90 Km/h. A spring snowstorm if you will...to be expected in April.
On Monday I start a job after many months of being "Funemployed" and will be at Inland (Leigh) Cement plant. I hate working at this particular plant since its dusty as hell - cement dust coats everything. But hey - need the paychecks and should be good for 2 - 4 weeks of solid work. Its with a relatively new refractory outfit and I've never worked for them before but word is the owner treats the boys quite well.
Time to dust off the workboots and my trowel. At least at this time of year the outside temperature usually doesn"t get much warmer than 25 C

Congrats and good luck on your new job!
Sounds good, be careful with all that dust, that sounds bad

You will be spending many a cold and windy night up the top of that cyclone mate.
After all the jack-hammering is finished that is.
Oz sings " My cement-works days are over now" to the tune of "De Camp Town Ladies"

Re: woohoo...finally picked up a job!
Actually, I was only at Inland Cement for 3 shifts then the company sent me and some others to Petro-Canada Refinery. Working 10 hour shifts, about to work my first Sunday so things have gotten a bit busy for me lately, hence why I'm not spending too much time here. A couple hours or so of gaming in the evening then its bed time. We were supposed to go to 12 hour shifts but it doesn't look like thats gonna happen...but who knows. We've done most of the tear-out that was needed so we'll see how long the Boilermakers take to weld new anchors and hex mesh.
I'll be busy for the next couple weeks, perhaps longer. Might get a week or two off until the next job...not really sure at this point. But when things slow down and I have more time at home I'll show my face around here a bit more. Usually spring & fall are the busiest times for us so I gotta take the work while its there

Sundays are double bubble mate!
They are here, at least. 10's or 12's are no different at the end of the day, you work Sunday for free!!
You gotta take it while it is there, it is the nature of the beast. No good sitting around on the bean bag.
It's the long weekend for ANZAC day here so I must apologise also. Spending time with the kids and drinking a few IPA's
Cheers
and beers
to all

Double Bubble Indeed! On May 2 we get our raise from $42.15 Cdn to $44.35 Cdn. Add 10% Holiday Pay. Soon will be making about $98.00 an hour for double time. Can't beat that!
Its either Feast or Famine in this business, right now the feast is on! The real beauty is that we all benefit because I'm gonna go on a big CD buying frenzy and of course will be upping them as time allows. I also gotta finish up buying Bruce Cockburn's discography for part 2 of the torrent I put up last year.
